879 seed heads

four posts in a day is some sort of record but the temperature dropped by about twenty degrees and that winter wheat has been scolding me so i went out and harvested one of the beds...879 seed heads as i cleared the bed and piled up the straw...tomorrow it's another batch of rhizobia slurry and cowpeas going in to fix nitrogen and build up organic matter in the bed...the "green manure" project continues and on a larger scale than on campus...one more bed to harvest...then more threshing and winnowing...and another planting of wheat in late september or early october...i will have ample seed for both winter wheat and cowpeas so if anyone is interested in trying it out in their garden ( implying, of course, that you are located reasonably close by ) drop me a line and we'll try to work something out...always curious about new results.
