wilt

the palmer drought indices say that short term we are in a mid-range between drought and moist...long-term though we are still in a moderate drought and the indiana department of natural resources' monthly water resource survey says that precipitation is below normal from 56.1 to 80.5% in the state's climate divisions...the curled leaves on the corn plants behind wal-mart agree ( so, for that matter, do the teosinte plants on campus...they will be curled when i visit tomorrow )...it's still dry out there as the season winds down...warm on and off as well..it has been an odd one...for the perennials anyway...makes me wonder what is in store next spring and summer...what will climate change do to native species? we will try to provide some data in a small way ( no conclusions or overblown theories...not equipped to do that ) and satisfy some curiosity along the way...and i have to say the ear of industrial corn in the top photo creeps me out.
