bird tape and maize

i took four five foot garden stakes and placed one at each corner of the bed...drove in an eighteen inch grade stake next to each one and lashed them together with jute twine for support ( don't want them falling on the corn, do we? )...then i added two tiers of flash tape...one at the level where most of the ears are forming and another along the top to deter an aerial assault...the tape moves in the wind and the sun glints off the metalized tape disturbing the birds...i waited until late to put it in so they would not become acclimated to the tape's presence or i'd have to be moving the stakes and tape around like a scarecrow to keep them off balance...the sweet corn will be done soon and the tape should be effective until then ( another week or so )...i dd the same for the hopi blue even though it has a longer season...birds don't seem to like it much, in my experience anyway, so maybe it will just be a festive touch in the garden...it does help break up the basic monochrome color scheme of the garden ( not that i am complaining about green...or the color the blooms provide...it's more of a contrast ) combined with the organic repellant i have been using to fend off small critters i am hopeful of a fair harvest...more as it comes up
