maize

both maize beds are doing well...the sweet corn will be done directly and ( so far...let's hope this doesn't tempt karma )has been fortunately bereft of predators...this particular season is drawing to a close...the yukon golds down the center of the bed will be done shortly as well..a double harvest from one bed...one of the many positive aspects of intercropping...the hopi blue in the third photo is about nine feet tall and there are multiple ears on these zea family members as well...next month sometime for this flint corn to be fully mature...more seed saving and, perhaps, some grinding...the bottom photo is of the row of northern tepehuam teosinte i planted in the hopi blue bed...ancestor and domesticate in one photo and traditional agriculturalists say the "wild and weedy " teosinte makes their corn "stronger"...this bed of maize does seem to support that.
