it's the last day of summer

a maintenance trip to the garden on the day before the equinox has me convinced autumn is near...the battered sweet corn as well as the cucumber wall, eggplants, strawberry leaves, and the overall demeanor of the garden tell me so...we aren't done yet though...fall planting is at hand and i just received enough seed garlic for thirty plants and i find i have more coming...there's more we could do and i have the seed and tubers to act in any direction we decide to take after some consultation...this has been a good season with a fair number of successes to outweigh the failures we encountered...next year promises to be better as we apply what we learned here...it may be the world in microcosm but understanding it fully( if that is even possible...who knows what complex interactions are going on between sweet corn and yukon gold potatoes? don't want to be arrogant in any assumption of knowledge or skill...do want to learn and share )is a lot more involved than it seems on the surface...gardening does not start in may and end in september..stay tuned if you like, there's a lot more to come up.
