monday in the back

there's still movement in the back yard if not any startling discoveries...there is more silk out on the nascent teosinte seed ears and there is good growth in the winter wheat bed...looking for tillering to begin there soon...i actually planted about a month earlier than i hav ein the past and i expect the wheat will be better established befroe winter...but that hardly seems to have mattered recently since it hasn't really gone dormant at all during the winter...chlorophyll filled and photosynthesizing all through the season...no real growth, but feeding the roots for a burst of growth come march...the bottom photo is of the venerable grape vine that did produce the last startler...one that promises to turn into somewhere around forty pints of grape jelly as autumn progresses...a windfall years in the making.
