a tramp around the back yard

okay...technically the hawthorn tree is not in the back yard...but it is on property i own so it is still in the yard...and it is alive with berries for the birds and they will come when the cold finds them...in the true back yard there are three beds down the shady side of the jungle with some jerusalem artichokes that will be dug soon enough...the front bed is open once the sunchokes are dug...the middle one will be planted in spring wheat because i want to compare it with winter wheat ( there will be some in the community garden too i think...as another comparison with the winter wheat and the wheat grass )...if all goes well ( and i am hoping because i planted the seeds in summer of 2012 and if they don't come up this coming spring we start over )the back one will be full of ramps in march...we will be seeing...the fourth photo is of some late season kohlrabi...the larger ones were somewhat woody but the hearts were still tender...so part compost, part salad...the fifth photo is of the backside of the ginseng patch and the sixth is the accumulating leaf litter on the bed...ginseng likes leaf-based humus and shade to grow in and those locust trees have been laying down leaves for twenty years now..i don't have a more hospitable place for them so i am hoping the seeds take...we'll see
