strawberry mulch II

...then i spread about eight or then inches of straw across the bed and covered it completely, fastening it down with landscaping staples...i threw the piece of nylon rope that held down the critter net around it to give it a bit more security from being lifted by the wind since it is more exposed on the raised bed...once the fabric comes off in the spring i will be leaving some straw in the bed to damp down weeds and help retain moisture in the bed...i have no experience with this fabric so there will be regular check-ups on its condition for a time...actually there will be regular check-ups on the garden anyway just to see if the winter wheat. winter rye, and hairy vetch go dormant or not...dormancy has been elusive in the gardens the last few seasons as the climate sends mixed signals so i am all curiosity about the coming winter and what it says about our climate...more as it transpires.
