at the community garden

though the season is winding down there are still a few things going on...the bed in the first photo is one we cleared on the nineteenth of august...what...three weeks ago...unsurprisingly there are sure signs of the return of the deeply rooted and perennial carolina horse nettle ( second and third )...much like queen anne's lace, this will be a persistent issue for this bed...from the looks of the jerusalem artichokes at a distance ( fourth ) you'd assume they were done...not quite...there are still late season blooms ( fifth and sixth )and a late season leafcutter bee ( seventh through ninth ) busily taking advantage...the asparagus ( tenth ) is healthy even though it has ceased to bloom, produce berries, or put up new spears...there may be a few of the latter as the weather cools a bit more..the blue potatoes behind the asparagus ( eleventh and twelfth ) are robust and looking like they are settled in for the long haul...i will, eventually, simply have to pull them...they have no clue about when to stop.
