winding down

it was forty-nine degrees ( fahrenheit ) this morning when i got up...autumn is in the air at the beginning of the month...so i went out to the community garden to have a look around to see what i could find in the way of signs of the season beginning to end...the jerusalem artichokes are certainly finishing up ( first photo )...still there are some blooms to be found ( second ) and the pollinators have located them as well ( third )...no banded white crab spider in sight though...the asparagus ( fourth ) is robust and still producing a few berries ( fifth and sixth )..i will be embarking on yet another five year long asparagus adventure a soon as i decide on a location...the spuds behind the asparagus were a bit parched ( seventh ) so i watered thoroughly...two of the plants were done so i pulled them to see what was there ( eighth through eleventh )...what i got was ten tubers of varying sizes...enough for lunch...i think i still have some garlic i grew at home and there is butter...how to cook is the major decision.
