more eastern gamagrass

the three eastern gamagrass plants that produces four proaxes between them last season have, so far, produced twenty-four with terminal spears...a significant increase and one that could make local deer ( since we lack buffalo ) happy...i've read that they are particularly fond of the larger seeds ( like those at the bottom of the spear in the second photo ) when they turn into what looks like little chunks of wood as they dry...that the seeds are viable at all comes as a surprise, they are difficult to establish..the three plants in the garden represent ten percent of the seeds i planted in the fall of 2009...the bottom photo is of a flowering terminal spear...more seeds on the way.
