spuds and grain ( with one visitor )

i planted spuds for a cyclical harvest so they are in a variety of stages...some are just getting started...some are beginning to bloom...
and some, like this one i started in the basement in march, are finishing up...so i pulled it and found four tubers...no world's record but not bad for a container grown spud in direct sun for only several hours a day...half a pound? i'll take it...there will be more soon and throughout the summer...
the wheat was knocked down by a couple of violent storms last month ( i think the rye is still upright only because it is pinned between the wheat and the critter net )...knocked down but not out...
it is ripening just fine...
although there's still some green to be found...another week then until i think about harvest...
the rye is coming along as well..and, like the wheat, isn't quite done yet...it will wait a while as well...
meanwhile it serves as a perch for some sleekly aerodynamic predators...there's more out there...the jerusalem artichokes are nearing time to bloom and the grapes and mulberries are doing fine...we will be looking in on maize, tesointe, beans, peas, squash, and peppers soon enough.
