6 november 2010

it has been sixteen years to the day since my friend died...and while time and events have mitigated the grief they haven't erased it...it lingers in a way i can only call reactive...much of my last stint as a university student revolved around her...her interest...her encouragement...her exasperation with my continued veering off on tangents i found germane to what we were doing...but she did not...and, finally, her friendship...she was less than a year younger than i was...we had both been married, at the time, thirty or more years...had four children nearing adulthood...an ageing parent in early demantia...there was a lot in common outside acadmic pursuits...a lot of life to talk about...a lot to commiserate over...to say i miss that is understaement...i hAven't been posting here much of late...mostly because i haven't been gardening much of late...life has gotten in the way...and, to some extent, so has age...another issue is that kathy was the motivation for much of my interest and without that interest gardening and the research into food anthropology has waned...i still grow teosinte and einkorn wheat...i just don't talk about it much...and this seems to be a large part of the reason...i miss my friend and her encouragement....such is life.
