a bloom and a bug

i was at the i u northwest community garden this evening and have a good news/ bad news sort of post...as i was measuring and photographing the eggplant bed i came across a japanese beetle bigger than life...i only found one but where there's one there are usually more...they are common and like to attack fruit trees ( like george the cherry tree ) grasses ( i find them on my maize ) and potatoes ( there is a bed of potatoes in the iuncg but i didn't see any beetles there )...four o'clocks larkspur and geraniums are all toxic to the beetle and can be intercropped around the garden to act as an organic control by killing or repelling the insects...the good news ( beyond not finding an infestation ) is that the peppers, potatoes, and eggplant are all in various stages of bloom and seem to be doing well...i will be sending out an fyi email to the proper people shortly just so they are up on this
