first day of autumn...

...was a lot like the last day of summer...warm ( first photo )...the nasturtiums ( second ) the wild strawberries ( third 0 and the newly hatched winter rye ( fourth ) seem to be at peace with the temperatures and the latter two are actually taking advantage of it to prepare for winter...the zea mays parvaglumis ( fifth ) on the other hand is unhappy and exhibiting some leaf curl from transpiration ( sixth through eighth ) for the first time i can recall this season..the northern tepehuan teosinte continues to produce combination silks and flowers ( ninth and tenth ) as well as ears ( eleventh and twelfth ) including several tandem ears ( thirteenth and fourteenth )..it is supposed to cool by the end of next week...one hopes for a gradual descent into autumn temperatures in the interest of viable seed...hope is pretty much a human condition..it is often deferred...we wil see what happens.
