as i was digging up the wheat bed after today's harvest in preparation for planting rutabagas i noticed i had missed one...i had pushed the shovel in deep enough to pop up the plant and quite a bit of its root system (and those of the stubble around it)...so i brought it home and soaked it in a bucket of water to remove the soil from it, dried it, and took a photo just for the sake of doing it...it's a shade over two feet long which is where the chinese yam ( a rootstock perennial) was at at the end of its second year of growth...it will be interesting to see what depth the perennial has reached this season.
