new year in the basement

a quick update on the basement season on the first day of the year...there's green down there too...the one yacon plant that is up and running so far has now deployed four leaves...it will be around for a long outdoor season come spring..meanwhile the potato that was planted sixty-nine days ago is due to begin setting tubers...by the end of the month or so it will be finished...across the room the younger spuds are robust, even if the true seed clone is a bit "leggy"...they should all be finished in time to plant outdoors in spring..i believe my bed in the community garden will be an all tuber affair this season with jerusalem artichokes ( already in ) spuds and some sweet potatoes...i am in a rooted mood.
