meteorological spring
it may not be "official" spring, however it is meteorological spring and so i went for a wander ( a purposeful one as we will see in a bit ) around the yard on a warmish march fourth...
difficult as they may be to see, the vines in the catalpa tree from the gnarled, grandfatherly grape root have begun to bud...
the small stand of winter rye is turning a vibrant green...
as are the egyptian walking onions which "walked" to a new location...
and the new york import wild strawberries are perking up as well...
however, since it is march, my main reason for going out back was to do some work on the ramp bed...
i wanted to loosen up and thin the leaf mulch i had put down last autumn which had matted down during the winter...
and if my timing was not prescient then it was profoundly serendipitous...because as i cleared the mulch away i found the first two ramps of the season..."official" spring be damned...the season is upon us...in a bit...planting spring wheat.
