autumn touches august

august has started out moist with nearly an inch of rain in the first three days...
and the temperatures are not holding at what would normally be an august-like level for these parts...
the teosinte had begun to lean...which is not unnatural for it, even though it seems a bit early...so i installed some bamboos and twine to support it...
a few of the teosinte plants have blomed...still waiting on silks...
the maize has been flowering for a number of weeks...and there are ears emergent and fully formed out there...
the squash is still blooming ( and producing ) however the bottom tier of leaves on the plants are dying back in a sign of things to come...
the peppers are coming to fruition..
while leaf litter form the canopy of the locust trees is beginning to fall in the beds...
the aerial bulbs on the "walking" onions have begun the process of "walking"...
gourds are forming...
and the first evidence of blooms on the jerusalem artichokes have appeared...all of which points to a latening season...fall is nearer than you think...or, perhaps, want it to be...it will not wait.
