yesterday's garden almanac

i took a wander over to the community garden yesterday to have a look at things...the maize is doing fine and has quite a few robust looking ears underway...
the stalks have served their purpose as trellises for the beans...vines have reached the tops...however i do not seem able to find any beans...i would think predation, however the legumes at home are not producing well either...blooms...few beans/pods...anomalous?
beyond that bed six is doing fine...spud corner is green...
the plants are still blooming...and there is still no sign of fruits...the blooms are simply falling off...
this spud was clearly finished so i dug it up...
and found five michigan purple tubers that weighed in at two pounds three point two one ounces on my scale..a satisfactory spud season for this one...
toss in the two ripe tomatoes i found on one vine and we have a clear indication that the season is moving along...a touch of autumn was in my yard yesterday...today's forecast says we won't get out of the sixties ( fahrenheiit )...that whole fall thing may be closer than you realize.
