a quiet moment

the first day of the month finds temperatures a bit cooler than what the end of march delivered...there was sleet on the deck this morning and, while there wasn't all that much going on last month, things are decidely quiet out back...
there are a few ramps up...
in other allium news the garlic and onions seem unfazed by the change in weather...
neither is the ten thousand year old dna in the einkorn wheat...
there are buds but nothing much else is going on on the grapevine...there is still no word from the asparagus and it is far to early to look for berry blooms...outside...
on the other hand the indoor colony is working on two brand new ones...still very green, waiting for the proper moment to emerge in yellow blooms...
and in a fine display of duality of function the blooms are both on stolons...a tandem reproductive system with the seed laden beries designed to be consumed and spread by, mostly, birds...and an above ground rihzome to land and start a daughter plant...that dna is clever stuff...long lived, opportunistic, and relentlessly reproducing itself...did i say there wasn't much going on? we all make mistakes.
