no-til tactical error?

at first glance from the road the field behind the big box stores seemed to be destined to lie fallow this season...there are quite a few native plants making up the field's skyline...
and the for sale sign is still up...
a closer look however reveals a no til soybean field...which is very odd given that this was a bean field last season and should, by bi-polar monoculture standards, be dense yellow #2 field corn...hot pockets industrial feedstock...
a field with rows overrun in places by native plants...obviously no herbicide has been sprayed...
which is why the view from a distance was so confusing...with so much competition there is some question about how well even a genetically modified organism can do...the field is finite with finite resources ( barring nitrate fertilizer...however, in the absence of herbicide, the native plants would benefit too )...the harvest may take a hit...then again, given the current economic situation and a 25% chinese tariff on soybeans fro the mid-west, the whole crop may be a serious miscalculation on the part of farmer brown ( and his president...but that is a subject for a different blog )...there is at least an outside possibility the crop won't be worth the cost of harvesting it...soybeans are trading lower and there may be a glut if the trade war really takes off...so this bean field and the one next tot he supermarket to keep an eye on this summer...we will see where this goes.
