walking beans ( well...a bean field anyway )

a trip to the supermarket took me tot he bean field next door...the economically volatile beans ( on again off again trade war suspense ) are looking very healthy in the overarching heat that has been the weather here recently...
doing so well in fact that they are seriously crowding the volunteer corn...most of which is struggling because it germinated in clumps where gleaners missed the seeds...even for bayer/monsanto corn, too close together...
except this guy i found at the margins of the field...this plant's issue will be shade thrown by the "native growth" in the berm of the field which is a tall tangle of golden rod. lamb's quarters. poke weed, and wild grapes...
and the beans are beginning to bloom...a sure sign that pods are next in line...provided there are enough pollinators...i have found them this season...but not nearly as many as the last few...perhaps i need to rethink my search areas...
the beans are doing well..but not so well as to escape the seletalization of leaves by the same sot tof beetle i have been finding in my yard ( and i will be applying neem oil to my beans as well as the grapes and yams )...it is another bumper crop of the little pests again this year it seems...not enough winter to keep them under control..so i have to intervene in my yard...one wonders if there will be a spraying here soon...so the bi-polar monoculture drones on at the south end of the inland sea...for the record, i walked but pulled no weed...
