commemerative loaf

the weather is cool which is auspicious for a few things...it is high time to plant the winter wheat and rye, and to mark the occasion i used almost all of what was left of the rye flour i milled from the 2019 rye to malke a loaf of bread ( with caraway seeds )...
after the bread was in the oven i went out and turend and hoed the beds again, taking care to preserver the volunteer spuds...
and the remaining field peas...
while we are talking field peas, there is fair evidence that blooms have been fertilized and that pods are forming...we will see if the season is long enought to bring them to maturity...
after i turned the beds i threshed out some rye seed form this year's harvest ( and no, i did not winnow it...hence the awns )...
i have been working this season's wheat and already had seed set aside...
i broadcast the seed into the beds...half a bed of rye...one and a half of wheat...which i planted more densely this year...neither grain plants very deep, and will surface germinate, rather than rake the seed in i covered them with a thin layer of compost...
and gave both beds a soak just to be sure the seed understood it is time to get moving...
elsewhere around the yard, multiple aerial bulbs from the egyptian walking onions which i planted recently are up and running...the garlic is mostly taking its time...
this one must have floated up in the recent rain so i gave it a gentle push back under the soil surface...hopefully all is well...
ears on the teosinte plant i have been harvesting continue to mature...
others have ears that have begun to separate from the stems and move towards opening...
and a second plant has just begun to produce viable seed...the season moves along.
