a large grass

both mature hopi blue plants have produced a flower on their main stalk and the larger of the two is producing one on its largest tiller...so far that is the only one that has produced ears of maize...there's still ample time for more to develop before the season ends and there is a third plant that came up nearly a month after these two so hopefully there will be more than just two ears ( although i won't complain at all if that is all that they produce )...similar yet radically different than the industrial corn i grew up around it's a glimpse ( for me anyway ) into what agriculture was before monsanto and supermarkets..i will be searching out more heirloom varieties to try in the future ( and i am disappointed that the oaxacan green dent did not germinate at home or on campus...more research on that one and another try next spring ) and ( if i can find enough room ) perhaps try to duplicate some of buffalo bird woman's corn "hills" interplanted with squash.
