relief?
the palmer drought indices tell me that the july rains have lifted lake county indiana out of a severe drought and made it "moderately moist" and although parts of the university lawn around hawthorn hall don't seem to have gotten the message the asparagus at the southwest corner of the pgp is optimistic enough that it has sent up another spear to "fern" and feed the roots and, possibly, add to the already impressive reproductive process the plants are producing...the northern tepehuan teosinte in the third photo is verdant and doing well...they are hardy dry-land plants but they seem to enjoy the abundance of water i supply when nature holds out...the only brussels sprouts i have been able to grow anywhere are on campus and coming along...they should be on schedule for the autumn harvest ( yes they are a late season vegetable but the supermarket disguises that )...the bottom photo is of five perennials...jerusalem artichokes (left), chinese yams (center, vines on the trellises) , intermediate wheatgrass (front), zea diploperennis( next to last moving away from the camera), eastern gamagrass (at the far end), and the annual maize on the right.
