maintenance trip

i had some time to spare this morning so i went to campus to do some work in the pgp and finish a project at the iu northwest community garden...among other chores i wanted to dead head the jerusalem artichokes...you can see that they look fairly unsightly after the petals fall off and the plant doesn't need that dead weight anyway...as i was pruning i ran across a bee moving from flower to flower pollinating away so the fungal infection hasn't done all the colonies in...hopefully one made it to the squash blossoms and did some work there as well ( third photo )...some acorn squash on campus would be cool...the sprouts are doing well...i weeded out the crabgrass that had migrated in from the university lawn ( which looks much greener this morning ) and after i went over the garden with the warren hoe and spread some organic small critter repellant i cut down all the proaxes on the gamamgrass whose seed heads have shattered in an effort to clean that end of the garden up a bit as well...just another day in the garden.
