asparagus mulch
back on campus at seven this morning to finish mulching the pgp...i cleared out the asparagus in both beds which created a lot of biomass to remove ( i saved the "berries" anyone want to plant asparagus? )...after i removed it to my truck i put down a layer of compost...asparagus is a heavy feeder and this will not go to waste...then fastened down one side of a piece of landscaping fabric with staples and laid down around eight inches of straw...pulled the fabric over and fastened it down on the other side...then i put another layer of fabric over each bed to try to insure that the fabric doesn't fail and expose the straw to be blow all over campus...so...about three and a half hours of work...one hundred and thirty feet of fabric...two hundred and twenty-five landscaping staples...and a bale and a half of straw and i have put the gardens to bed until spring...more a sit comes up.
