november teosinte

the potted teosinte i brought in under the lights in the basement is slowly and steadily dying back ( which does not make me too sanguine about maturing seeds ) but nothing like the plants out in the yard...the days are shortening and the temperatures are falling and the leaves are brown..although there is still some green in some ears...i have been letting those ears ride outside pretty much just to see what happens but i will be bringing them in soon enough and trying to preserve them...the ones i have already harvested are drying and the seeds in the ears are beginning to shatter...time to dig out some old flower preservation manuals and find something to apply...in what seems unlikely the yellow peas in the green manure mix in my yard continue to bloom ...they are doing the same in the community garden so obviously there hasn't been a hard enough frost to deter this hardy annual so far this autumn...how long they will last is a fair question...there will be mulching this weekend and some updates on the potato storage project and the indoor potatoes...and the status of the wild potato germinating...a full card for the next few days...more as it transpires...( a poor pun i know but i could not help myself )
