a simple suggestion

it's the second week of march...and while i have had winter wheat in the ground since last september, the time to plant spring wheat is here..or at least in the next week or so and i have been preparing seed and the thought occurs to me that if you ever get the opportunity to thresh and winnow some wheat you should..it will get you in touch with a more remote, less industrial form of agriculture and give you a different perspective on your next slice of bread...
and if you really want a handle on how desperate ( i cannot think of a better way to describe this ) the initiators of the neolithic revolution were to get something to eat, try teasing some of the earlier varieties of wheat...say emmer, or this einkorn...out of those tough husks they come in...hunger had to be what drove the effort.
