another half inch? coals to newcastle...

shockingly it has rained more and another half an inch brings us to eight and two tenths inches for the month to date which is a bit over twenty-one percent of the yearly average here...yeah..averages lie...i know...still eight inches + in nineteen days is not what you could call "normal"..it's wet and the industrial fields are idle and that is not a problem just yet...but will be if this keeps up a few more weeks...tanks of anhydrous ammonia are sitting in farmyards waiting to kill earthworms and sterilize the "growth medium" with petrochemical fertilizer...we are, however. all aware of my view of industrial food and its river of feed stock...
still...what's up and running out back does not seem phased by the rain at all...the rye is lush and there are more visible ears of grain than there were a few days ago...
the wheat is poking along..still verdant though...
pleasingly the second year asparagus has "ferned" and is feeding the roots...asparagus loves water as long as it has good drainage...it is fine...i would like to see these plants put up more spears when the weather cools in autumn...september say...
the concord grapes in ( and all around ) the catalpa tree are not wasting time...
the berries are looking very green...
with far more blooms...
and berries in waiting that i had expected...
and a raft of stolons making a break for the the world outside the south bed...
all four containerized government spuds are up and the bisons i started in the basement are booming along...
and the jerusalem artichokes have staked out their turf and are in for the long haul no matter what the weather does...defiant..relentless..up for a struggle with the berries...so...it would seem that rain is rain no matter how much...that could change if this continues...or if it dries up for that matter...we will be watching.
