three new plants...perhaps

went out to campus to have a shufti at the garden this morning and the asparagus is looking fine...
some of the smaller plants have already "ferned" and some of the larger are headed that way...
and if you look a bit right of top center in this photo you can see the "ferned" plants have already begun to flower...
one asparagus irritant is that people are still harvesting it by cutting it off above ground when they should be cutting below the soil surface so as to not expose the plant to disease and pests...i have sent off an email to the proper authority...we will see what transpires...a bureaucratic harrumph perhaps...
over in my bed things are moving along...
the morene...
tacna...
michigan purple
and basadre are all moving towards tubers...
as are the elmer's blue and bisons in the other trench...
the smaller of the two alfalfa plants is booming along...
and the larger has clearly overcome its initial transplant shock and is putting up robust new growth...blooms and nesting materials for leaf cutters later in summer...
finally, i soaked more teocintli seed in hydrogen peroxide this morning to start a new round of germination...i had a couple of northern tepehuan and a zea mays mexicana left over from the first round so i decided to put them in...
i planted and clearly marked them...last time i tried this some helpful soul pulled the plants thinking they were weeds...these things happen.
