berries and grains

it was seasonably warm when i got home from work so i decided to have a look around the back yard...just to see what was what...
and for the very first time i found blooms from the native berries and the new york imports in close contact...the stolons and daughter plants have happened on one another and, if you look closely, the pollinators have found them...this was one of the purposes in bringing the imports in...we are not going to interfere...we are going to watch and see what might happen...we are inordinately pleased however...
oh there are pollinators busy all over...they are busy making a living...
in symbiosis with the plants...mutually beneficial...everyone gets what they need...what trade is supposed to be...we could, if we were not so arrogant, look to these systems and learn...
that was the winter rye in the background of that strawberry plant photo...and the rye is looking lush...
as a rule i try to keep personal representations out of this blog...but it was the most convenient way to show the scale of the plants height...
a few days ago i posted some photos of marked swellings in the rye stems and today i find the swellings becoming an irruption of rye ears...long green awns...grain soon enough...and then some bread...eventually...
one last note...i was equally pleased to see that one of the northern tepehuan teocintli plants has produced the rudiments of a first leaf...the ancestors come around again.
