enough potatoes already II
the containerized winter wheat doesn't seem to be anywhere nearer to dormancy than it was a week ago...neither does the wheat in the ground...so far a dormancy dud...the yellow peas in the green manure mix have died back ( third photo ) but the winter rye in the next photo (and right behind those peas ) is as full of chlorophyll as could be...the terminal spears the held the seed heads on the intermediate wheat grass back there have died back but the plant itself seems to be at ease with the temperature...winter is definitely on the prowl in northwest indiana to day and i wouldn't expect it to back off this month...not if recent memory serves me in even a half-baked fashion...what happens in january is anyone's guess...i believe i was harvesting brussels sprouts at the beginning of 2013 ( there is a post about it somewhere in here )...last winter was reasonably mild with a cold spring...the year before was wacko in most respects...from eighty degree days in march to a drought...i refuse to prognosticate...i will be in the garden asap.
