december sunday in the garden

chilly in the garden this morning...went by to check on the mulch covers mostly but i also took some measurements on the strawberry bed in preparation of making a framework to mount the critter net on next season...i believe a frame made from wood with the net affixed and some handles attached will be easier to manipulate that last season's abomination...i made it far too tall last year and a shorter framework of wood should be light enough for anyone to lift out of the bed...a couple of bungees around each end will help keep it in in place ans will be simple to remove...hopefully an easier time for everyone...the winter wheat is showing some signs of dormancy and the yellow peas have all died back...but the winter rye and hairy vetch are still chugging along even in sub-freezing temperatures ( not to mention the wind out there...like i said, chilly )...so far the off season has held no disasters...or even mild problems for that matter...here's hoping that continues.
