sprouts
the jerusalem artichokes continue to bloom...i am forced to think that last year's stunted and scraggly group was the result of the drought we suffered all season along with the heat...the tallest plants in that photo are pushing ten feet in height...looking forward to a copious harvest in the autumn...particularly since this is only one of five stands of sunchokes...the cucumbers and zucchini are both heavy feeders so i gave them all a dressing of compost ( and i will be doing likewise at the community garden this weekend )...the community garden isn't the only places producing cukes and one enterprising plant has abandoned the trellis and has taken to the fence for support...the cauliflower sprouts were becoming entirely too tall indoors so i set them out and out they will stay no matter what...if i leave them indoors they will keel over...they may shock badly and they may not survive but inside they are sure goners...my experience with indoor sprouting and transplant has never been a particularly positive one and i would have rather that the seeds i planted in the bed in the community garden had germinated like the ones i planted out back...we will see what happens here...more as it comes up.
