zea, helianthus, megachile

heat and sunshine have accelerated the maize season out back...
cornflowers are emerging from the larger of the plants and they have anchored themselves with support roots...no nascent ears as yet...however with flowering underway they cannot be far off...
the zea mays mexicana...
has been blooming for some time now...
and the silks along the main stem and the tillers are becoming more profuse...there will be ears here sooner than on the maize...perhaps...
and i never could resist a well turned support root...
she may be difficult to see given the light and colors, however at least one leaf cutter has discovered the vigorously blooming jerusalem artichokes at the south end of the house...they have been busy since they hatched...
and this girl spent considerable time ( enough for dozens of photos ) carefully sealing the end of another full tube in the bee house...that brings the total to eight complete which pleases the agriculturalist...careful over-winter storage should mean another generation of bees next summer..something i am all for.
