cycles in cycles

the perennial garden project is showing signs of the coming seasonal change...the jerusalem artichokes are beginning to die back ( just as well...i received a confirmation that the plants i had been hoping for are coming this month so they have to come out...they will only be in the back yard next season...the pgp will face its first season without them...i do believe some hopi blue maize will be taking their place on the north side ) and there are streaks of brown in the green of the eastern gamagrass...however...the garden is being contradictory in its signals...even as the gamagrass "browns" ( inverse to its spring "greening up" i suppose ) it has produced yet another terminal spear which will doubtlessly mature into seeds...dna is relentless in its pursuit of replication...not to be outdone the asparagus has launched another spear which will have a few months to feed the roots before it dies back..and the almost eight foot northern tepehuan teosinte plant has finally begun to flower...it has a dreadfully long season for this part of the country but, if the weather holds, i hope it will at least produce seed ears, if not mature seeds...the peculiar cast to the season carries on as it begins to wind down...there is much more work to come and a definite change in the garden's direction...and in my back yard as well...all beginning this month...perennials will abound..from herbs to grains...still geeked ( and there will still be as much maize and teosinte as i can succeed in growing...geekness extends beyond perennials after all...maize is a plant well versed in diversity...and tesointe is totemic )...more is sure to come up as plants and roots trickle in from the wider world to this small scale exploration...cannot get enough.
