shang
so my year old ginseng roots arrive just before the firetrucks yesterday and before the insurance adjusters showed up today i went out in the back yard to plant them...roots won't wait long...dormant or not...so i took the warren hoe out into the shade and dug a shallow trench...actually several trenches... ( about an inch and a half ) and leaned the rootlets up against the side of the trench...growth bud side up...and back-filled them...then covered them with a layer of straw...now w e wait til next spring and see if they come up...and if they do we wait a decade to harvest...replanting any "berries" they produce ( wonder if they are related to asparagus?) to expand the patch...nothing involving perennials is short term or non-invasive...cool.
