teosinte rebounds II

well...give the teosinte credit for being more resilient than i did...the flower emerging on a secondary stalk has been joined by a second nascent one which, provided the weather holds, makes me a bit more sanguine bout seeing ears, if not seeds...the third photo is another of the three members of the zea family aligned in a row...northern tepehuan teosinte on the left, zea diploperennis in the middle, and hopi blue maize on the right...it's startling ( for me anyway ) to see traits displayed by the ancestors so clearly inherited by the domesticate...from leaf shape to ears the connection is obvious...the fourth photo is from the two year old stand of zea diploperennis, and the last one is of the zea family from the west end of the garden through the asparagus bed...lots of berries this year.
