g m soybean
after i mulched the garden yesterday and did a few chores around here i went out to run some errands and they took me past the soybean field so i stopped in for a visit...beans are still germinating out there in the november chill which strikes me as counter-intuitive for a spring planting crop...i can see the seeds overwintering and germinating in april or may...but they should by all rights be dormant right now...weird...the germinating bean i dragged in from the cold and put up next tot he acacia seems to be coming along fine...its stem has grown about half an inch and the leaves are opening ( obviously dicot which pretty much tells me its a soybean and not just some other plant i happened to pick up...that and it familiar resemblance to the seeds germinating in the field )...where it will go from here is anybody's guess...i intend to keep it going as long as possible just to see what its morphology is like...will it be a normal bean plant or will it turn mutant like the volunteer corn that was in its home field earlier this year? stay tuned ans we'll see what happens.
