no till and seemingly no spray...
a somewhat edgy and restive feeling after being in an industrial environment drove me out into the ecosystem called suburbia and, ironically, to an industrial field...and one with an abundance of non-agricultural plants...almost a second crop...among the rotting corn cobs there are dandelions and bermuda thistle and pig weed ( i did not see any lambs' quarters which were erroneously classified as weeds in the film "king corn " )...all sorts of stuff that atrazine was specifically developed for...and if we were downstate or in iowa they would be dousing it by now...but there are big box stores and retention ponds nearby so i am assuming a dose of herbicide is a statutory no-no...i have some time off over the coming holiday and i believe i will wander out the no till corn field i saw a few weeks ago and see if the straw that was laid down the rows has had any impact on weed development there...as it stands this crop has an enormous amount of competition and i have to wonder what yields will be like
