...but it's not all a tragedy
there are still whole ears of maize intact out there...and there are plenty of beans around as well...the vines on the maize are producing some fine specimens and the bean/cucumber wall is still under production as well...the season has reached middle age and is showing some signs of slowing as the autumn approaches...there are beets up and running and spinach and snap peas are planted to provide a fall harvest...we aren't defeated...and we aren't done with the season by a long chalk.
