all-weather beets
yesterday's evening downpour left some of the beets out in the yard splattered but unbowed...well watered and little worse for wear...the onions are greening nicely and seemed to rise above it while the potted beets and onions just came clean in the rain...spinach seeds arrived today so there will be another cool weather crop added to the mix to harvest in a couple of months...arugula and snap peas too...although, disturbingly, the package of pea seeds from johnny's selected seeds says "u.s. plant variety protected. unauthorized propagation prohibited."...seems we have a license to grow only one crop from these seeds...i see some rethinking of suppliers in this gardener's future...july dried out after a very wet june...august may reverse that trend...the possibility of mare rain is forecast...more on the beets and the rest of the fall crops as it comes up.
