dry with some losses
the national weather service has made a correct prediction for the week...so far anyway...
the grass was looking more tan than green on campus this morning...
and the soil in my bed was something less than moist...
for which one of my teosinte plants has paid a price...
you can expect losses in gardening...it is fairly standard stuff...however i have to ponder the watering schedule and adherence to it...
the other two i watered thoroughly with water from gallon jugs i tote around in the bed of my truck...i will go back tomorrow morning to water the entire garden since it is my day to do so...
elsewhere around the bed the alfalfa is clearly planning an escape attempt...
this potato plant has bloomed...
as have a host of its cousin the carolina horse nettle which is spread across the garden...
all of which is keeping the bees hard at work...
the asparagus remains upright...
the cow peas are robust and, one hopes, producing sugars for the rhizobia...
and that new spear i fond last week has done some growing...
meanwhile some beds still, at this late date, seem innocent of human activity...back at home there is movement in the back yard, albeit at a stately pace...
the teosinte and maize continu to produce height and new leaves...
the squash in the background looks content while the pole beans have found the bamboos i put out for them...
with blooms and aerial bulbs the walking onions are showing redundant reproduction capability ( which is why the yard is replete with them )...
the volunteer field peas is hinting at another bloom which may add to the half dozen pods already growing....there will be seed saving...
and finally ( for today ) the mooseberry bush continues its maddeningly slow pace of growth...i do see a node forming there which i hope is a sign of new leaves soon...can't develop soon enough to suit me...patient gardening or not.
