what did i water today?
it's a day off work so i headed out to the campus garden early...
because it is my day to water and the earlier the better...i spent better than an hour going over the beds thoroughly...we had a couple of tenths of rain ( by my gauges ) a few days ago...it has also been summer-like in late spring so i decided a soak was in order...so what did i water?
squash...
tomatoes...
basil...
peppers...
einkorn wheat...
teosinte...
collards...
marigolds...
cow peas...and an assortment of others...
carolina horse nettle...
lamb's quarters...
a variety of grasses i am reasonably certain are not teosinte...
and some unidentified native growth...
in fact i have to wonder if some of the beds have seen any human interaction at all...a few seem very naturally seeded and the season is beginning to laten in terms of planting ( oh, transplants i suppose...however you have to bear in mind i am inclined to grow everything from seed and it is getting past time for that to be functional )...these things happen...
over in my bed the alfalfa is adapting, if not entirely happily, to its new domestic circumstances...
the spud in the corner by the wheat is at the very point of blooming...
and the teosinte looks content...
the asparagus has remained reasonably upright...
the cow peas are breathing ( and basking ) more easily...
and, warm as it has been, the asparagus is working on new spears...had not expected that until autumn...perhaps the compost is having an invigorating effect...or, perhaps, the asparagus is just doing what it does and i am just now noticing...your call.
