more late season growth II
the asparagus in the ppg pis doing its usual late season routine...it is a plant that likes cooler weather and as the season lengthens it has a second season of growth...the spear in the first photo has grown a bit since it appeared last week...if you look closely at the second photo you can discern two more youngsters...at the same time this is going on there are plants that are flowering and plants that have mature seed ready and are dying back...cyclical production in a nutshell...meanwhile the perennial teosinte has taken off and seems to be threatening to subsume the wheat grass entirely...the absence of the ever invasive jerusalem artichokes has left the north side of the garden open and it is moving in in true perennial fashion...this will go on until it's time to mulch.
