saturday maintenance I
i went back out to campus this morning to do routine maintenance on the strawberry bed and have another look around...after i weeded the bed i netted two rouge stolons and the biggest berry harvest so far this season...the plants are blooming wildly and seem to be deeply immersed in a late season push...there was no one around to give the haul to so someone in the family will be the beneficiary of the plants' work...someone has harvested the last yukon gold plant out of the sweet corn bed...they cohabited ( to swipe ellen's turn of phrase )well together this season and will probably be a staple duo in intercropping...there will be more varieties of maize next season...i ordered some heirloom sweet corn seeds and some apache red to go with the hopi blue...a splash of color coming up sooner than you imagine...and they will go in with local seed potatoes ( and, perhaps, a few from the potatao storage project if that turns out well enough )in the spring...but to get back to the point...after i hoed out the weeds and cultivated the be i mixed another slurry of innoculant and green manure seeds...i put them in the center of the bed, leaving a bit of room on both ends...you can find out why in the next post.
