slowing down

we're coming up on the autumnal equinox in a few days and day length is the trigger for a lot of plant behavior ( or failure to behave ) and there is no shortage of behavior in the community garden...the cucumber wall has seen better days...that said, there are still blooms emerging ( and bees! ) and the plants are still producing... time to snag a few yet before the frosts...the eggplants are chugging along and the maize seems to have distracted the squirrels ( for the nonce )as a few are definitely mature...the green manures in the old potato bed have filled in well and will be charging the soil with nitrogen for a compost free bed next season...there will be a flurry of tomatoes yet and the strawberries are everbearing..the real shut down begins next month and runs to november...there will be bulletins...but for all that production goes on...harvest moon coming up.
