garlic I...preparing the bed
went out to the community garden this morning to begin the fall planting season...garlic is first up and i began with the hopi blue bed because there was ample room down the center for garlic to thrive...garlic is not a notoriously heavy feeder and it isn't a big user of water either but to be sure i spread and turned in forty pounds of compost down the intended row...while i was working i turned up quite a few earthworms which tells me that the worm towers i installed in a couple of beds last spring at least did not drive the worms away...a good sign of fertility and the presence of lots of organic matter...once i had the bed prepared to suit me ( and, hopefully, the garlic more so ) i moved on to planting.
